Ways to give
Leave a gift in your will
Your lasting gift to protect the Cumbrian landscapes
Why legacy giving matters
Leaving a gift in your Will to Friends of the Lake District, no matter the size, costs you nothing today, but has a lasting impact on the landscapes you love.
Gifts in Wills are a vital source of funding to help us protect the Lake District and Cumbria for future generations. They help us to carry out essential conservation work, respond to planning applications that may affect the landscape, and champion issues that matter most to our communities.
The positive change your gift makes
Recent income from gifts in Wills have enabled us to:
• Create more native woodlands in Cumbria
• Run volunteering and educations events that inspire people to care for our fragile landscape
• Review and comment on planning applications on landscape issues, inappropriate development proposals and land use policy
• Begin work to protect and celebrate our nocturnal skies through Dark Skies Reserve accreditation, supporting and educating local communities
Ways to leave a gift
Making a Will is the best way to ensure your estate is passed on to the people and causes that matter most to you, and that your wishes are followed.
We highly recommend you use a solicitor when writing a Will, to ensure your wishes are recorded as you intend. If you decide to leave a gift in your Will to Friends of the Lake District, we will be extremely grateful. You can do this in two ways:
• Leave a percentage of your estate (residuary)
• Leave a specific amount of money (pecuniary)
Residuary gifts are especially helpful because they keep their value over time. Leaving even 1% of your estate, has 100% impact on the Lake District and Cumbrian landscape.
